JUST a matter of Biology

S/S12 saw influence from living forms, most noticeably fauna; the underworld, overgound and biomorphic.

However, current trends could see the fashion industry take a new direction for AW12; transforming into something darker, more organic and raw.

>> BRAINS: The Mind as Matter 2012 exhibition explored what has been done to brains in the cause of scientific study.
Curator Marius Kwint said the exhibition was "a physical encounter with the brain as an organ and as an object".

>> THE NEXT NATURE MOVEMENT believes that in the future we will think about things ecologically, rather tahn mechanically. The movement is a website and a philosophy that merges technology and nature to become one new nature.

"With our attempts to cultivate nature, humankind causes the rising of a next nature, which is wild and unpredictable as ever. Wild systems, genetic surprises, autonomous machinery and splendidly beautiful black flowers. Nature changes along with us."

>> MICROGRAPHERS (a possible root of the biological influence):

>> THE DAMIEN HIRST EXHIBITION at the Tate gallery in April 2012, has renewed media attention, thrusting Hirst's work back into the public eye.

>> RICK GENEST
, "rough-sleeper turned avant-garde model" (Louise Jury), began his transformation into Rico the Zombie after surviving a brain tumour that could have killed him.
"Everyone has a different idea of what is beautiful. It's not like it's a real corpse. It's art." Genest

>> IN BEAUTY, the organic, biological trend has presented itself in the form of caviar.

Ciaté launched the caviar manicure earlier this year; caviar-like pearls are applied over wet nails, formng a textured surface.

>> LOVELY BONES, an article in the Evening Standard, showed how the organic trend is influencing interior design and homeware.
